Grass fed beef liver is truly a superfood! 🔥

Loaded with B vitamins, Vitamin A, copper and so much more- grass fed beef liver is a true powerhouse of vital vitamins and minerals humans need for optimal health. Until recent years, consuming organ meats regularly was practiced throughout cultures world wide. Unfortunately, eating nose to tail has been replaced with convenience and processed food products.

Liver is one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet!

We love incorporating beef liver into our diet regularly because it is the most potent form of bioavailable nutrients. B vitamins, especially vitamin b12, are imperative in thousands of different processes in the body and can have a direct impact on hormone production and estrogen detoxification. Vitamin a supports hormone synthesis, reproductive health and aids in the reduction of oxidative stress. Vitamin a and vitamin b12 are synergistic, which means our body will be able to absorb these nutrients even more when consumed together! Bioavailable copper is needed to convert the food we consume into energy.

In Period Reboot, most of my students enjoy learning how to incorporate organ meats like beef liver into their daily regimens! 😍

But isn't the liver a filter for toxins?! Yes, the liver filters and detoxifies most of the blood in your body but it doesn't store these toxins! It is important, however, to consume liver only from healthy animals. This is why it's important to source 100% grass fed liver.

Buy fresh or frozen raw grass fed beef liver.

A simple way to begin incorporating liver in to your diet is to freeze the liver and grate small amounts into the meals that you are already cooking. Whether you're grilling up hamburgers, making meatloaf or enjoying tacos- adding a small amount of liver into your meat will not change the taste. 😊

Another option is to cut the liver into small cubes (about the size of a thumbnail) and freeze. Each morning, you can simply pull one of your frozen liver "pills" from the freezer and swallow! Swallowing the liver with juice helps mitigate any taste.

*Side note: if consuming raw we suggest freezing the liver for at least 2 weeks first.

It’s ideal to consume our nutrients in whole food form but sometimes supplementation is incredibly helpful. My favorite liver supplements can be found via Fullscript - the supplement dispensary I use. You also get 15% off just because 💃

What to look for in quality beef liver capsules:

  • 100% grass fed liver (no fillers, additives or preservatives)
  • Freeze-dried to ensure optimal nutrient content
  • Non-defatted (we want fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K!)

Will this one thing heal your hormones? Probably not alone! But alongside nourishing foods, metabolically supportive meals, mineral balance and a root cause based approach, we can transform our health (that’s what Period Reboot is allllll about!)

If you suspect excess estrogen (or any hormone imbalances) doing the DUTCH test is a comprehensive way to gather the data and a test I utilize often with my clients.
