If you're new around here, welcome! I'm a menstrual health expert and ND. I have helped thousands of women welcome in healthy periods and balanced hormones with my program Period Reboot! Be sure to hop on the waiting list so you're notified the next time the doors open!

Struggling with your hormones? I’ve got some important things to share with you! ⚠️⁣

You may be wondering if something hormonal is going on. Maybe you’re waking up feeling 👎 in the mornings, on a coffee IV drip just to make it through the day or feel like PMS takes over half the month. ⁣

Or maybe you feel it more in your cycle. Your periods are irregular, painful and heavy and you’re tired of the bloat and acne that accompany it.

Is that you? 🥺⁣

Your body is speaking to you and if you’re checking the boxes on these symptoms... it might be your hormones. ⁣

If there’s an underlying hormone imbalance at the root of what you’re feeling, it’s safe to say that intense cardio, HIIT training and fast paced classes are NOT serving you. ⁣

Women struggling with hormone imbalances do not need more intense exercise programs to move the needle. This is working backwards 🚫

And while you may have been told that you just need to "exercise more" or "push harder" to lose that stubborn belly fat, a hormone imbalance will make it all but IMPOSSIBLE to lose weight. That is... until you address the hormone imbalance in the first place (and that's the point of everything I do as a ND!)

Especially if a woman is struggling with a hormone imbalance, I love encouraging her to exercise cyclically. This means exercising slightly differently depending on which phase of her cycle she's currently in. It's also hugely beneficial for ANY woman to partake in as our hormones do naturally and fluctuate differently to a man's.

Exercising cyclically is a game changer!!! 🎉

Exercising cyclically has been a life saver for me to keep variety in my routine and work WITH my biology, rather than against it. And you may love it too!

The female body and hormones fluctuate and change all month long and yet we’ve been taught to exercise like a man 🤔 No wonder so many of us have struggled to maintain exercise routines or even felt worse committing to intense cardio or HIIT programs.

Did you know?! 🔍

Women of reproductive ages have historically been excluded from (or make up a very small percentage of) research in exercise science. Our cycles apparently make collecting data too difficult 😇 Many studies largely use men and post menopausal women.

Remember your hormones like progesterone, estrogen and even cortisol fluctuate throughout the month depending on where you are in your cycle. Shifting your exercise can work with these natural ebbs and flows and prevent the damage that often comes with excessive cardio, HIIT training and intense daily exercises.

My top workout recommendations according to menstrual phase:

  Follicular Phase

  • walking
  • hiking
  • spin classes
  • gradually increasing intensity of workout as you approach ovulation

 Ovulation Phase

  • cardio
  • running
  • HIIT
  • using peak energy

 Follicular Phase

  • strength training
  • walking
  • climbing
  • Pilates

 Period Phase

  • yoga
  • walking
  • stretching
  • REST

Doesn't that sound fun, exciting and refreshing?! 😍

This is a great graphic to snap a photo of and save on your phone, too!

I find it fun to exercise differently throughout the month because it keeps things fun and exciting. If you're like me and historically would start a workout program only to get bored a couple weeks in, you'll especially love the variety that comes with exercising cyclically.

Before you start a wild exercise program because you’re stressed and are unhappy with how you feel, hear this: your cycle and hormones are the blueprint for balance.
