If you're new around here, welcome! I'm a menstrual health expert and hormone ND. I have helped thousands of women welcome in healthy periods and balanced hormones with my program Period Reboot! Be sure to hop on the waiting list so you're notified the next time the doors open!

I LOVE doing HTMA testing with clients and students. This simple test can reveal SO much about our health and give a great window into our mineral status. I offer this test to students in Period Reboot and also with my 1:1 clients. You can find more information below 😊

What is HTMA testing?

Hair tissue mineral analysis is testing that reveals our mineral status and what is likely driving our hormone imbalance symptoms. HTMA testing gives us a window into our health during the last 90 days or so and also shows us our mineral status INSIDE our cells. I prefer hair testing over blood tests when it comes to mineral testing.

I love doing hair and mineral testing with students and patients because it shows us what's really brewing beneath the surface. Hair testing is a soft tissue mineral biopsy. From this, we can certainly see our mineral status but we can also gauge things like thyroid, adrenal and hormone health as well as our stress response, health risks, heavy metal toxicity, blood sugar balance and so much more. It's pretty incredible.

Below I'm sharing with you a patient's results (shared with permission) and what can be seen from this valuable test.

And at the bottom of this email I share how you can get testing with me too!

HTMA Case Study: Burnt out mama

At first glance, nothing may really stand out on this HTMA test. Everything seems sort of within range right?? But let's look a little deeper.

This patient shared with me that her biggest health complaints were: fatigue, irregular cycles, suspected anovulation, weight gain and intense PMS. She shared with me that she eats really well and tries to do all the right healthy things but still feels fragile and overwhelmed.

A few things stand out on her test here. First, I look at her first four elements - calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. These are the four core minerals and they are really important. While the numbers are interesting, they don't reveal nearly as much as the RATIOS between minerals. More on that in a minute!

Calcium stands out initially because it's very high in comparison to magnesium. We want to see a ratio of around 6.67 : 1 between calcium and magnesium but this is currently at 15.65! This already tells me something is going on with blood sugar and digestion. With calcium being this high, I also suspect the start of a calcium shell which is when calcium leaves the bones and teeth and goes into soft tissues and even creates a shell around our cells! Often when I see this, the person is dealing with dental decay, receding gum lines and cavities and when I asked this patient, she was surprised I knew and told me she's been dealing with a lot of oral health problems. 😮

In looking at the sodium to potassium ratio, I can see signs of massive burnout. Ideally we want to see a ratio of 2.5 : 1 with sodium to potassium but here we see it's 1:1. This is a pretty severe sign of stress and burn out. Over time, this could contribute to heart problems, blood sugar issues and even kidney and liver stress.

In looking at the calcium to phosphorus ratio, it's very high so we know she's a slow metabolizer and more prone to fatigue and weight gain.

Her calcium to potassium ratio also looks very high which can contribute to hypothyroidism.

Below you'll also see the toxic elements report and while it may look good because not much shows up, this actually isn't ideal. This tells me she's not detoxing well and probably until we improve her metabolism and digestion, she'll have a hard time excreting heavy metals.

I could keep going but those are the big things that stand out!

Is this cool or what?!

I love doing lab testing with women because it affirms what they're feeling AND helps us customize their healing protocol. 🎉 With this data, we were able to create a personalized plan that focuses on her root cause. Because until we address these mineral imbalances, it will probably be VERY difficult to balance her thyroid and cycle issues. And, the more we support her minerals the more we can improve her metabolism so she can ultimately shed the excess weight she's carrying, ovulate monthly, feel more balanced mood wise and simply feel like herself again. 😊

If you want to balance your hormones, we first have to investigate why they're out of sync and fix it at the root! That's why I love lab testing like the HTMA test.

Remember: Test - don't guess

FAQs about HTMA testing:

If I dye my hair can I still do HTMA testing?

--Yes! You'll need to wait 6-8 weeks though for your roots to grow out so we can get a sample free of dye

How much hair am I actually cutting?

--Not much! You'll need to cut your hair at the root for 4-5 different locations on your scalp. You're cutting such a minimal amount of hair in each spot so don't worry - you won't have any bald spots or even notice a difference!

I live outside the US - can I still do the HTMA test?

--Yes! We ship this test worldwide

Can you help me analyze my results?

--If you're inside Period Reboot or a private client, yes!
